about grocery & department store gift
certificate programs.....
What are certificates/coupons/scrip?
The crew program buys grocery certificates
at a 5% discount from Giant and Shoppers
Food Warehouse in a variety of denominations.
$100 worth of certificates will buy
a $100
of groceries -- plus the Crew program
earns
5%. We have the same arrangement
with
Department Stores and Restaurant chains,
but with this phase of the program,
the certificates
must be pre-purchased. We receive
the
certificates within 72 hours of our
ordering
them.
How do I purchase certificates?
Certificates may be purchased by subscription
(see enclosed form) or by calling one
of
the Ways & Means Committee members
listed
below throughout the season.
We intend
to pre-purchase the grocery certificates
in bulk so that they will always be
available
when you call. The Department Store
&
Restaurant certificates will be ordered
on
Tuesdays (orders must be in by Monday
evening)
and be available no later than Friday
of
the same week. The certificates
can
be picked up from one of the Ways &
Means
Committee members. Please make
sure
that the check is made out to West
Springfield
Crew Boosters Club (WSCBC).
How do the certificates work?
You can use the certificates as you
would
use any gift certificate. If
your purchase
is greater than the amount of certificates
you have, you can pay the remainder
with
cash, personal check, MOST or charge
card.
If your purchase is less than the face
value
of the certificates, you will receive
your
change in cash. All stores have
cash
back limits, so don’t expect to pay
for a
quart of milk with a $20 certificate
or buy
a pair of socks with a $100 certificate.
How do I earn fundraising credits?
You will earn approximately 5% on all your
scrip/certificates purchases. (Most of the
certificates earn 5% but some earn less and
are noted on the order sheets.) There
are no minimum amounts and we will keep track
of all your scrip totals. If the rower enrolls
two families at $500 a month each, the rower
will have earned $450 by the end of the school
year. REMEMBER: Each $1000 of
Certificates bought/sold will earn you $50.00
towards your fundraising totals. Only
$100 extra each month will earn an extra
$50 for your totals. Each returning
rower is required to raise $500 during the
school year and $250 is mandatory prior to
December 31, 1998. Notice to Novices
– You can start raising money immediately
and all dollars raised will be applied to
your spring requirement of $250.
How do I enroll neighbors, other family members
and friends?
Have them fill out one of the subscription
forms if they want to receive the certificates
on a regular basis or add their orders
to
your regular order. Make sure
that
your rower’s name is added to the subscription
form on the line provided so that she/he
gets full credit towards a fundraising
credit.
Why should I buy certificates from WSCBC?
It is an absolutely painless way to
support
the crew program because it costs you
absolutely
nothing!! Unless you buy everything
at 7-11, Price Club or at the Commissary
or you make your own clothes and gifts,
you
probably do some shopping at these
stores.
These certificates can also be used
for prescriptions,
stamps and photo processing at the
Giant
pharmacy. You and your friends
can
support the crew program without changing
your buying habits or having to buy
products
you don’t want or need!!
getting more information
Where can I get more information and from
whom will I get my certificates?
The
coordinators of the program are listed
below.
Get in touch with them if you have
any questions
or if you want to place an order.
The
coordinators are spread out over the
greater
Springfield area, which should make
it convenient
for everyone to get their certificates.
If you have any questions or if you
want
to get involved in making this project
work,
give one of us a call.

the facts
Fact: If the crew program had the support
of only its own membership (based on
80 families),
did no outside sales and recruiting,
spent
only $500 a month between groceries
at Giant
and Shoppers and/or the department
stores
and restaurants and did this only during
the school year, we would earn over
$18,000.
Fact: If we wanted to raise an equal
amount through car washes, we would
have
to hold a car wash at least once a
week through
the entire year.
Fact: If we wanted to raise an equal
amount through pizza sales, we would
need
to hold a sale every two weeks.
The
club might as well buy a Domino’s franchise.
Fact: If we wanted to rake leaves and
raise an equal amount, we would have
to fill
over 12,000 lawn bags and do an incredible
amount of raking.
Fact: If the crew families fulfilled
their scrip/certificate goals, they
could
satisfy most, if not all, of their
fundraising
responsibilities without having to
participate
in any other fundraisers other than
phone
books.
